Today, I finally tackled a few things I had been putting off. I’ve been away from the traditional 9-to-5 grind for this past year and taking on a few freelance projects instead. As a result, my workload is slightly splintered so I have the habit of having keeping “here and there” to-dos that I need to do (and it never feels done). This morning I finally accomplished what I had been putting off – at least, the majority of the stuff.
If I was being honest, my real 2020 goal is to eliminate as much freelance work as I can, especially since that is the majority of what is always pending. It hangs over me. The thing with freelancing is that the work isn’t left at the “office.” It’s always stuff I can do at home, which bleeds into downtime. Somehow I wonder if I have become addicted to having a variety of projects happening at once, especially now that I’m away from traditional work for a little bit.
The thing is I enjoy also creative writing. I think writing is basically having homework for the rest of your life. I also enjoy blogging which carries with it it’s own to-do list. My procrastination of the stuff I need to get done could be stemming from a need for something different.
I think that’s why I’ve returned to LadyUnemployed.com. I’d like to see if I can make this a little something different. More for my to-do list, I guess.
Or maybe my perspective is wrong. Who knows. I think we’ve turned into a society of side-hustlers and life-hustlers and to-do-list-over-doers that we have forgotten to put it all aside for a moment and relax.
Anyways, join me as I return and see what we can make of things. I’d love to hear from you. How are you all doing?
Freelance work can definitely become freelance clouds constantly looming. An organized attack of bitesized task completion and a vow to not say yes to more until your at freelance task list “inbox zero” would be the way I would go. Instead of removing the todo list, I would make my todo list for freelance work completely encompass every bit of work I have said yes to… then I would throw the pen away and make the rule that I will not add a single line item until this list is completed… then I’d feel motivated that there is an end to the looming cloud and a horizon on the way. Get busy 🙂
I like that approach! Not agreeing to say yes until the inbox is cleared. Now, to vow not to add anything else! 🤔
