I’m back with another brainstorming session! I’m a little delayed this time because of personal matters. For those of you who have come to enjoy this post, I apologize!
Basically, the purpose of this is to help those in content writing careers or who want ideas for their business blog, social media, or newsletters find content to talk about it. I work ahead, so feel free to check out my June post. These ideas are more for lifestyle brands and blogs, but in truth, any brand and blog can have lifestyle content if you spin it right.
Now onto July!
For July 2023, consider these themes:
July 4th Holiday
US citizens obviously know about the birthday of our nation. There are obvious and not-so-obvious content ideas to go with:
- Recipes: 4th of July recipes are always fun! They have that great firecracker, red-white-and-blue, and BBQ vibe to them. But feel free to go off in any direction as needed with this. Considering narrowing it down to a niche, such as vegan recipes, gluten-free desserts, things you can easily make if you are invited to a BBQ, etc.
- Fashion: Outfits for the 4th of July parade/celebration! This is a fun topic for fashion brands. Get people to show off their red, white, and blue. Feel free to narrow it down by gender, age, price, fabric, etc.
- Safety: Safety is a big thing to focus on considering the increase in violence. Share tips on how to keep yourself safe in crowds and what to bring with you to outdoor events. Keeping yourself safe while outdoors is good to, such as posts about protecting yourself against insects, sum damage, water safety, etc. Also, firework safety is another great angle.
- Local Events: If your brand is a local one, consider focusing on events in the area, listing places that will be open, or great spots for picnics. Basically, become your audience’s tour guide!
- PTSD for 4th of July: Many veterans struggle with PTSD on 4th of July. This is a great time for spreading awareness if your brand/blog is aligned with the military in any way. Or share tips for someone who needs help coping, if appropriate. Penn Medicine had a good article about this.
- Tips for Pets: Pets have a really hard time this time of year too. So consider posts about awareness and tips for pet owners. Maybe list great products to have on hand if a pet is having a hard time when the fireworks go off.
- Fire Safety: Fire season and fireworks go hand in hand unfortunately. Consider sharing tips on how to play with fireworks safely and avoid risks for fire.
Heatwave Tips
I feel like July is the hub of the hot weather season. So, this is also a great time to share content related to this. Consider these angles:
- Tips on staying safe during heatwaves
- Importance of hydration
- Easy recipes for hot weather
- Tips for helping neighbors, kids, elderly, pets, your community
- If your business is local, consider sharing cooling centers
- Fashion for hot weather
- The impact of hot weather on our mental health
- Activity ideas for kids
UV Awareness Month
It’s UV Awareness Month! Obviously this is a great time for sharing tips on protecting your skin from sum damage, talking about the effects of sun damage, and the importance of skin cancer screening. If you have a brand that has clothes or products to protect against the sun, now is a great time to share. Here’s a great post for ideas.
National Picnic Month
Obviously there are more months than July to have a picnic, but it’s National Picnic Month! Take advantage by having posts about recipes for picnics, great items to take with you on a picnic (could be picnic baskets or bug spray or blankets or tents etc), what to wear on a picnic, shoes to take on a picnic, you name it. Also, don’t forget to share great places to have a picnic. US Department of Agriculture can help you find great picnic spots near you.
Being Outdoors
I feel like a lot of us are outdoors more during this time of year. Try to be as specific as possible, such as specifying the specific type of outdoor. For example, narrow it down to posts related to the beach or a National Park or on the road or in a foreign country or in your own backyard. Consider these angles:
- Anything safety-related, from being safe on a hike to being safe on a road trip
- Posts about what to take with you outdoors always help. Be specific though!
- Food to eat, how to find good food in a place you’ve never been before, restaurant recommendations, etc.
- Share ideas on where to go, where to avoid, tips on what to do when you get there
- Clothes you must have while being outdoors
- Share car ride tips, include safety tips, activity ideas for kids, share printables for parents, music lists to play, etc.
Other Special Days/Awareness Days in July
- Student Loan Tips: By the start of July, a lot of people are going to be impacted by the news of the student loan decision by the Supreme Court. So, prepare posts on financial tips if student loans don’t get waived, if people should consolidate loans, tips on reducing expenses, increasing income, etc. Even if student loans do get waived, a lot of people will have to pay theirs since they are starting up again. So, nows the time to share!
- Clean Beaches Week: It lasts from July 1 to July 7. Consider having posts about how to prepare for cleaning the beach, what someone would be looking for, what someone should wear, etc. Also spreading awareness is always good. If you have a local angle to your blog or brand, share info about beaches near you and how someone could volunteer to clean the beach.
- Bereaved Parents Awareness Month: This is a month to spread awareness for parents who have lost a child. Feel free to share resources, personal stories, tips for someone who has lost a child (or knows someone who has), how to help/support them, etc. More tips here.
- Anti-Boredom Month: I was always bored during the summer as a kid. Share tips for parents on how to alleviate boredom. Maybe even talk about the benefits of boredom, so you can irritate my inner child (ha).
- Teddy Bear Picnic: It’s on July 10th. Obviously, a fun one if it applies to your brand or blog.
- Shark Week: Shark Week is July 11th. That’s great to share crafts for shark week, info about the show on Discovery, facts about sharks, myths about sharks, being safe around sharks, movies about sharks, you name it!
- Amazon Prime Day: This is great if your brand is on Prime or you are a blog and want to share prime day deals. It’s on July 12th.
- Comic-Con: A lot of events are happening over the summer for Comic-Con. So, feel free to share outfit ideas, what to expect, what it’s like, etc. Feel free to have posts for the comic-con veteran or the newbie (like me!).
There are a ton more available on National Today. Of course, choose the right theme for your business, brand, or blog. And do a little digging to see who launched the day, and if there are special hashtags you can use or social media accounts to tag.
Let me know if I missed any special days in the comments section. And feel free to add to my ideas!
